Bend, Oregon
urbansun, SunSmart Home Design and Construction of Bend selects Cascade Sun Works to install a DayStar Solar Hot Water System for their showcase home.
This DayStar system uses 40 ft2 of collection through a single DayStar 4ft. x 10ft. collector mounted on the southerly facing roof. A DayStor i80 solar appliance is used for storage, control and back up hot water heating.
| This 2200 square
foot Craftsman-style home employs a sweeping bank of south-facing French
doors to collect enough solar energy to provide about 60% of the homes space
heating requirements—and capture the stunning views of the Cascade
Mountains. Thermal storage and other cost-effective passive solar
techniques combine to maintain comfortable, even, year-round temperatures.
Ongoing improvements in construction techniques and products continue to
reduce the amount of energy and other resources required to live in a warm,
comfortable home. Kathryn Gray, chief home designer at urbansun said “we were really excited to be able to add the solar domestic hot water system to our passive solar home. Now we have the sun working even harder to provide the bulk of our heating needs. Solar hot water is so easy to cost justify based on low cost per month of the equipment and the ongoing reduction in energy usage.” The home is open by
appointment for persons interested in passive solar design and construction. |
